Ok, so this is set up to help get the site new drivers once enough subscriptions come in and you have the money. Question is, do purchases like windowblinds, desktopx pro, etc... help the site, or does stardock get all the money from those things?

kona, if your not going to use any stardock programs, then don't buy any. If your going to camp here at WC and download things and post on the message board, then a subscription wouldn't be to much to ask.Even if you don't use it.

$20=Library of OD icons?

The browser has a message board section as well as access to Stardock chat channels, you know. Anyway what is the dif between a donation and a subscription that you never download? And, IMO, arguments like these are the sticking points to the *respect* issue. Even silence would have been better than this slap-in-the-face approach. You know people here have deep feelings for the place and will rise up in an instant to defend it. What price is a little silence? Especially if it buys you peace.

Kind of like the physician's pledge... at least strive to do no harm.

Kona, my point is, then why claim that you want to help out when it's clear that it's really not worth the effort to you? You think talking about it is the same as actually doing it? A number of people subscribed (myself included) not because they use all the features that come with a subscription, or because they get this or that treat, but because they want to support the site. That's what it's about, not whether or not we use X or Y or want to rate or not. It's to support the site. Period.

A lot of *your* comments are not appreciated, Kona, as you well know. And sometimes some of us who usually ignore your BS or try to be understanding (as I have been) just lose patience. As I did in this case. Don't want to subscribe, fine, don't. But don't go on about how you'd like to help and then lame out. That's just BS. Don't like to be called on it? Don't do it then. Simple.

no printer.....

I originally subscribed because the site was having bandwidth problems last yeara and needed subscription money to purchase more bandwidth.

Since that has been done time and again, with the site going from turtle speed to a bearable speed, I consider it money well spent.

Buy one, they're not that expensive...

kona, maybe you need to donate some money to your library instead so they can get a printer.

The quest for Wincustomize subscriptions is exactly that....to help the site prosper, and has little or nothing to do with Stardock at all.

The ideal is that Wincustomize.com, as an entity can [as much as possible] pay its own way.

Since the recent demise of the Server and the ensuing database restoration, etc it's important that the site stand a bit better on its own two legs financially without such a massive influx of funding from Stardock's coffers.

Anyone really frequenting the site and 'enjoying' its use should ideally see that it is in his/her interest to assist in the site's viability, that's all...

Most people come to realise that a community is about 'give and take' but perhaps others maybe forget it's a two-way street...
